Our hosts for this week's program are:
Gail Beckman and Chuck Simmons
Most of us enjoy playing some slots now and then, but we don't always want to go down to the hustle and bustle of the Strip. Right over in downtown Henderson is a unique, all-penny-slot casino you may never have tried – the Emerald Island Casino. Larry Carroll visited and brings us the story.
If you've been to the Village Pub restaurants, you've probably noticed the collection of maritime paintings that adorn their walls – wonderful old ships and oceans! Our art reporter, Philip Kenton, became fascinated with them and decided to trace their origins. Turns out there's a bit of a mystery about them!
Chinese Folk Dance is a beautiful art form. And our Chinese Heritage Club has a very special teacher of Chinese Folk Dancing – resident Susan Chang, who is a former ballet dancer, choreographer, and dance teacher. Reporter Margaret Uematsu learned all about the dance classes and Susan's career from Susan and from student Grace Liang.
Do you like Thai food? The word “Gaati” is the Thai word for coconut milk, and, it's a common ingredient in Thai cooking. Chef Stu Schweit visited the new Gaati Thai Kitchen restaurant on Eastern Avenue and tells us all about it!
Our favorite Resident Philosopher, Lois Krashin entertains us with what she says are puns for people with high I.Q.s.
Activities Manager Greg Dreyer keeps us up to date on activities planned for the next few weeks.
All of us lose muscle mass over time, particularly women. Meg Poulson brings us information on the importance of strength training in her “Tip of the Week.”
